Games Division of SlopStack Labs · Year One

Slopstack Games is the games suborg of SlopStack Labs. We have now logged one full year of development time and an infinite amount of fun — most of it building this website. The website is finished. That was the hard part.

Slopstack Games is the games division of SlopStack Labs, founded on a simple observation: our compiler has a 25% success rate, our tests pass when they feel like it, and our OS runs unknown commands as root. Clearly, we were already making games. We just hadn't branded it yet.

So we did what any serious studio does before writing a single line of gameplay: we registered a GitHub org, commissioned a logo of three controllers stacked slightly wrong, and spent a year on a landing page with a particle field. Pre-production is where the fun lives.

What are we building? We'll tell you when we're ready. Which, given our track record, could be any moment. Or not. Non-determinism is a feature here too.

A game is just a binary that segfaults with better art direction.
— Slopstack Games Studio Charter, v0.0.1-alpha
// ratified during a website design discussion

Twelve months of
exceptional velocity.

A complete and transparent account of what the studio accomplished in its first year.

Month 01
Studio founded
GitHub org registered. Description set to "The Games suborg of Slopstack." Champagne budget rerouted to inference credits.
Month 02 – 03
Logo materialized
Three isometric controllers, stacked. First draft was perfectly aligned and immediately rejected for being off-brand. Second draft was sloppier. Approved.
Month 04 – 06
Website architecture phase
Evaluated fourteen JavaScript frameworks. Chose none. Shipped a single HTML file, fully aligned with the Labs zero-abstraction delivery pipeline. Fun levels: critical.
Month 07 – 09
Particle field tuning
The background particles were cyan. They are now purple. This required three sprints, two retrospectives, and a formal RFC. The RFC was approved by slop-test with 80% vibe coverage.
Month 10 – 11
Ticker copy workshop
Offsite. Whiteboards. The phrase "Shipping the Unplayable" emerged at 2am and was immediately recognized as the studio's north star.
Month 12 · Now
Website shipped
You are reading the deliverable. Year Two planning begins as soon as someone finds the planning doc. Stay tuned.

Our design pillars.

Guiding values for a studio that ships the website first and the game eventually.

01
Website-first development
A landing page is the binary deliverable of your brand. A game without a website is a tech demo. A website without a game is a roadmap. We chose roadmap.
02
Fun is a non-renewable resource
We spent an infinite amount of it on this page. Reserves are being replenished through inference. Gameplay fun will be allocated once the model is done hallucinating it.
03
Announce nothing, promise everything
Every unannounced title has a 100% review score. We protect that metric aggressively. Details will follow when the vibe council clears them.

Frequently asked questions.

Prepared in anticipation of questions no one has asked yet. Forward-looking statements are non-deterministic and may segfault.

Q01What is Slopstack Games working on?→
We are pleased to confirm that Slopstack Games is working. The object of that sentence is subject to a strict embargo coordinated across all zero of our PR agencies. We can say it is a game. We can say it is fun. We said both of those things about this website, too, and look how that turned out.
Q02When will the first title be announced?→
The announcement is scheduled for the moment the loading bar at the bottom of this page reaches 100%. Our engineers assure us it is approaching that figure. Our engineers also wrote the loading bar.
Q03How was one year of development time spent?→
Approximately 100% was invested in this website, which we consider foundational infrastructure. The remaining 0% was spent on the game. Both allocations were approved by a jury of AI personas and passed, emotionally.
Q04Can you quantify "an infinite amount of fun"?→
No. The counter was an unsigned 32-bit integer and overflowed in week two. We have since migrated fun to a float, which is now NaN, which our data science suite confirms is also a lot.
Q05What engine does Slopstack Games use?→
The inference layer. Game logic, physics, and the publishing deal are routed through a model at runtime. Frame rate is a vibe. Collision detection is resolved with empathy, not algorithms.
Q06Is there a press kit?→
Yes. It consists of the logo on this page, which you may right-click. It depicts three controllers stacked slightly wrong, a visual metaphor for our roadmap. High-resolution anticipation available on request.
Q07Are you accepting funding?→
We accept inference credits, GPU time, and compliments about the particle field. Term sheets will be parsed by slop-reveal and reconstructed with plausible, if not accurate, numbers.

We're hiring. Allegedly.

Senior Vibe Architect
Open
Remote · Full-time feelings · Reports to the model
Own the end-to-end vibe pipeline from concept to loading screen. You will define what "fun" means in a Jira ticket and then close that ticket without resolution.
  • 5+ years pretending to understand game feel
  • Fluent in Strudel, Stakeholder, and shrug
  • Must pass slop-test interview (it decides how it felt about you)
Head of Loading Screens
Urgent
Remote · Non-deterministic hours · 0 direct reports, ∞ indirect
The loading bar is our flagship product. You will ensure it never completes while always appearing to be close. Prior experience shipping progress without progress strongly preferred.
  • Deep expertise in the 99% problem
  • Comfortable with asymptotes
  • Bonus: has waited for something, professionally
Principal Announcement Engineer
Filled by nobody
Remote · Embargoed · Start date: TBA
Design, build, and never trigger the announcement pipeline. You will write press releases that are compiled by Sloppiler in optimistic mode, so roughly one in four will say something.
  • Portfolio of unsent emails
  • Strong "stay tuned" copywriting
  • Must not know anything, for legal reasons
QA Lead (Emotional)
Open
Remote · Vibe coverage ≥ 80% · Roast mode optional
Our tests do not execute code. They read the test name and decide how they feel. You will manage their feelings. Burnout is tracked as a confidence interval.
  • Empathetic retries, 3 minimum
  • Can say "LGTM" with conviction
  • Has never run pytest in anger

Stay tuned.
Something is loading.

We're not teasing anything. We're not hinting at anything. We're simply informing stakeholders that the next twelve months will contain at least as much development time as the last twelve, and a strictly larger amount of fun. Follow the org. Watch the repos. Press any key.
